theprimarykidsAs an elementary Art teacher, my Philosophy of Art education is comprised of four components needed to create a comprehensive children's art education program.

Art Aesthetics teaches the child a new way of seeing the world. Art Aesthetics allows the child to consider the meaning, impact and value of art.

Art Criticism teaches the child to describe, interpret, evaluate, and judge an artwork. Children have valid opinions and ideas worth exploring and expanding upon. Criticism allows children to create an appreciation of works of art and understand the role of art in society.  Children learn the appropriate art vocabulary words used to analyze a work of art.

Art History teaches the child the history of an artwork and the biography of an artist.

Art Production teaches the child the skills and techniques needed to produce
an original artwork. All children need to experience the satisfaction that comes with accomplishing a task and creating something with their own hands.  In today’s technological society, creating with ones owns hands have become more obscure.

Every child needs to become a problem solver and inquisitive questioner who not only asks the questions but also seeks the truth in the answers. The art, paintbrush, pencil and paper are the tools to teach a child ways to be successful in life.  Not every child will become a Picasso or Monet, but each child will come away with a discerning eye and a desire to look beyond what they see.
